Music is integral to worship at St. Mary’s. We are blessed with a strong musical leadership team that oversees the ministry across many contexts.
St. Mary’s Choir
Our Interim Director of Music, Mr. Fred William McIlroy, is a respected music educator and performer in and around the State of Washington. In addition to his duties here at St. Mary's, Mr. McIlroy sings in the St. Mark's Cathedral Compline Choir and serves as a substitute teacher for the Kent School District. Dr. Rachel Root, our Interim Assistant Director of Music and Organist, holds a Master’s degree in Organ and a Doctorate in Choral Music and is the Director of Music and Worship at Trinity Lutheran College in Everett, Washington. Our highly talented professional musicians have produced a magnificent thirty-voice choir that leads us in worship each Sunday at the 8:45 a.m. Mass.
Contemporary Worship
St. Mary's Worship Team leads the Sunday 10:45 a.m. Mass with a wide variety of contemporary Christian music. The Worship Team began its ministry in 2006 and currently consists of vocalists, piano, guitar, and percussion. If you are interested in learning more about this exciting ministry or are interested in joining, please contact Heather Burgess.
Compline (pronounced comp-lin)
Compline is a beautiful, popularly attended contemplative worship service that occurs on the second Sunday of each month at 9:00 pm. This service, based on the night time prayers of the Benedictine daily prayer offices, provides a half hour of quiet meditation, music, scripture, and devotional reverence rarely found amidst the busy pace of modern life.
Children’s Voices at Wednesday Mass
Music is also an important part of our mid-week Mass during the academic year. The 10:00 am Wednesday Mass is a joint worship opportunity with our Christian School. One child, carrying the cross, leads the children’s procession into the nave from the school. The children then lead the congregation with their joyous song of glory and praise to the Lord and music throughout the liturgy.
